Objective: Create a robust corridor connecting the Veluwe nature area with the floodplains of the River Rhine by 2010

Problems: not all stakeholders were convinced of the benefits of the nature scenario. Some companies were reluctant to move from the industrial estate

Solutions: a multicriteria analysis of three scenarios helped demonstrate the benefits of the nature alternative to the skeptical stakeholders. The last non cooperative companies were bought up after a period of negotiations

Results: removal of industrial estate and rearangement of the valley as a natural brook area

Critical factors of success: cost benefit analysis of the ecological network alternative and feasibility study. Commitment of some key stakeholders

Key learning points: propose development alternatives, their costs and benefits for a transparent decision making. In order to complete a robust corridor project, sometimes expropriation is  necessary
